Strengthening rural linkages to markets
to stimulate economic development
EMG fosters sustainable economic growth through services such as agricultural
competitiveness, farm-to-market linkages, trade and investment promotion,
market-driven post-harvest practices, industry and trade group strengthening,
small and medium agribusiness promotion, and food safety and quality programs.
EMG provides capacity development and project management to aid agencies,
public sector departments, and the private sector.
Areas of Expertise
Agribusiness Value Chains
EMG applies a business approach to stimulate
competitiveness in agribusiness value chains and improve economic performance by
alleviating constraints related to investment, production efficiency and costs,
value-added product standards and quality, and effective marketing. EMG
strengthens commercial relationships among motivated rural producers, processing
intermediaries, and better-informed wholesalers and retailers.
Marketing & Trade
EMG targets new market opportunities, designs
export-market support systems, enhances private sector market performance
locally and internationally, and improves overall industry performance. We
strengthen rural finance and credit systems and build international
trade-agreement capacity.
Rural Livelihoods
EMG programs support production, processing and marketing
of agricultural food and beverage products, as well as related non-farm
business, health programs, rural finance, policy frameworks and institutional
strengthening in an integrated approach to rural livelihoods.
Fragile States/Recovering Economies
Post conflict and distressed states
require a private sector approach to stimulate small business as a foundation
for agribusiness market outlets for the rural poor. EMG delivers strengthened
producer groups, improved land tenure and access to credit and transportation.
